Let's forget about that terrible Season 2 of True Detective for a second, and focus on this — the newly released trailer (yay) for Season 3 of HBO's crime anthology series starring the talented Mahershala Ali. The moody trailer stars the Moonlight and Luke Cage star as Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansa. He'll be tasked with solving a mystery set somewhere in the Ozarks — and hopefully getting the show back on track after that disastrous sophomore season (sorry, Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and anyone else who was down with that season).

The trailer does little to set up the Season 3 plot, but we do know it will take place over the course of three separate time periods. The new trailer also does a good job of establishing a broody, haunted mood thanks to the setting in the Ozarks. (Let's face it — Los Angeles didn't quite have the same dark, romantic effect like Season 1 did.)

Season 3, which was written by True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto, also stars Ray Fisher, Carmen Ejogo, and Scoot McNairy, Stephen Dorff, and Meryl Streep's daughter, Mamie Gummer.

True Detective Season 3 is set to premiere sometime in January 2019. Will you be watching?
