One Person Just Sacrificed Themselves in the Craziest Way on 'The Walking Dead' Season 7 Finale

There hasn't been a death this dramatic since Glenn and Abraham.

The Walking Dead season 7 finale was not quite as heart-burstingly brutal as its premiere, though some would argue it was just as dramatic. There was death, gunfire, deceit, and poison. Not in that order.

The death in question was, unfortunately, Sasha's. Fans who tuned in for the season's penultimate episode "Something They Need" knew Eugene supplied her a small dose of poison like any good friend would, enabling her to concoct a devious plan, like any even better friend would. In theory, it was brilliant: good old Sash would convince Negan she was all in for some dirty, nasty Rick betrayal, when in reality, her actions would allow Rick the distraction he needed to get the jump on Neegs and the Saviors.

It was, however, also on the sad side, forcing us to say goodbye to a good, strong character.

Sasha, who'd gone full zombie after ingesting said poison, leapt out of the coffin Negan intended to hand over to Rick and the Alexandrians, giving Negan le mini heart attack and creating the most badass moment of the episode.

RIP Sasha.

A fire fight broke out amongst each faction — the Saviors, Alexandrians, and Jadis' people. It wasn't until Maggie and the Hilltop and Ezekiel and the Kingdom showed up that the battle turned in Rick and friends' favor. For the first time, Rick scored a veritable win against Negan and company.

Negan, not always the most emotionally intelligent of humans, was probably impressed. One might imagine this GIF to be his internal reaction:

Speaking of Maggie, Glaggie enthusiasts were granted a special gift toward the end of the episode when she and Rick engaged in an extra special conversation.

After Rick praised Maggie for showing up (albeit last fregging minute) to save them, Maggie refused to take the credit.

Clutching her long-lost father Hershel's old watch, which he gave to Glenn before his passing, she said, "Glenn made the decision, Rick. I was just following his lead."

It was a fitting tribute to Glenn, whose death casually wrecked long-time viewers in the season 7 premiere.

Fan reactions to this heartfelt moment were understandably emotional.

Lucky for us, this explosive conclusion is far from the end. Expect The Walking Dead Season 8 in October.
