WB has released the first trailer for Will Smith's Suicide Squad followup, a drama called Collateral Beauty. In the film, Smith plays a man named Howard who becomes disillusioned with life after suffering a terrible tragedy (a.k.a. the loss of his daughter). To cope with his depression, Howard begins to write letters to big concepts like Love, Death, and Time. However, it's only after these concepts become personified (by Kiera Knightley, Helen Mirren, and Jacob Latimore respectively) that Howard is able to learn to move on, or something like that.
Sure the trailer may come off a little contrived and cheesy, but it achieves what it sets out to do — make you realize Will Smith is trying to win an Oscar by plucking at your heartstrings. Side note: is anyone getting some major Christmas Carol vibes here? May the Oscar gods be with you this time, Will.
