The wait is over! Well, the trailer wait anyway. We've still got 40 more days until the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is upon us April 14. For now, the first full trailer will have to do. Feast:
Beginning with Arya bloodied and running scared through the halls of Winterfell, this trailer builds and builds. Varys looks petrified too, like Sansa during the Battle of Blackwater Bay. The Lady of Winterfell, meanwhile, sees dragons for the first time. Jaime Lannister pledges to fight for the living. Jon and Daenerys go to see Drogon and Rhaegal, and it certainly looks like Jon will be a rider.
This is a get hype trailer and a great one. HBO and Game of Thrones do a good job revealing little, unlike say Marvel, who shows everything in their trailers. Keeping in mind most of the footage shown likely comes from the first few scenes of the first episode, there's more than enough dread to go around.
Season 8 will consist of only six episodes. However, word is each one will be longer to make up for the shortened season. HBO CEO Richard Plepler talked to Variety after seeing them, in January:
"It's a spectacle. (Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss) have done six movies. The reaction I had while watching them was, 'I’m watching a movie,'… They knew the bar was high. They’ve exceeded the bar. I’ve watched them twice without any CGI and I’m in awe. Everybody’s in for an extraordinary treat of storytelling and of magical, magical production."
As if we weren't excited enough already. Stay tuned for much more Game of Thrones news in the weeks ahead. And mark April 14 on your calendars if you haven't already. The Great War is nearly here.
