Behold the iPad that was blessed by Meryl Streep's touch.
On Thursday, Nicole Kidman shared the first photo of Streep from the set of HBO's hit series, Big Little Lies. In Season 2, the three-time Oscar winner will portray Mary Louise Wright, the mother of abusive Perry (Alexander Skarsgard) and the mother-in-law of the effervescent angel-on-earth, Celeste (Kidman).
Streep's character is described as a woman who's deeply concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren following the death of her son, Perry. After arriving in Monterey, Mary begins searching for answers to difficult questions. So you know she'll cause a whole lotta ruckus with her Nancy Drew attitude.
Thanks to Kidman's Instagram account, we know the Wright family is still big on family time. As seen in the photo, Mary is snuggled up with her two grandsons and her newly widowed daughter-in-law. It's hard to tell what they're watching — could be family videos or an episode of Paw Patrol. Guess we'll have to wait to find out.
Season 1 of Big Little Lies was based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, and Season 2 will be partially based on a new story by the author. The forthcoming season was green-lit for seven episodes which were all penned by David E. Kelley once again. Kelley will also serve as the showrunner, while filmmaker Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank, American Honey) will take on directing duties in place of Jean-Marc Vallée (who helmed Season 1).
Given the amount of awards Big Little Lies has already racked up for its freshman season, the hit drama will undoubtedly continue its hot streak with a big name like Streep. The revered actress is an awards magnet and a 21-time Oscar nominee, so they might as well just give her the Emmy now.
Season 2 of Big Little Lies is expected to air some time in 2019. Yes, we said 2019!
