The long weekend is here. Let's figure out ways to waste some time.

Actually, these movies are far from a waste of your time. Whether you want to be scared, shocked, amused, thrilled, or (ahem) titillated, we've got a streaming option for you.

1. The Ritual (2017)

Starring: Rafe Spall, Arsher Ali, Robert James-Collier, Sam Troughton

Blair Witch fans should run to see this one, easily the best original horror movie Netflix has produced thus far. The Ritual follows a group of old buddies reuniting for a camping excursion on the anniversary of a friend's death. Of course, things go wrong. One friend gets hurt and a shortcut leads them into the darkness where horrific events stall their journey. The night, the woods, the unknown, The Ritual is a recipe for nightmares.

2. Good Time (2017)

Starring: Robert Pattinson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ben Safdie, Barkhad Abdi

Want to see a killer acting performance? Check out what Robert Pattinson does in Good Time, one of the most underrated action flicks of 2017. Actually, labeling the movie "action" does little to explain its complicated and thrilling storyline. Pattinson plays a street hustler who robs a bank with the help of his disabled brother. The job goes to hell, of course, and, while the cops nab his brother, Pattinson's Connie manages to get away. Needing $10,000 for a bail bond, Connie races to get his brother out of jail while evading police and making new "friends" along the way. This is breakneck movie making at its best. Pattinson is a live wire. He got a six-minute standing ovation at Cannes after the film screened.

3. Super Dark Times (2017)

Starring: Owen Campbell, Charlie Tahan, Elizabeth Cappuccino, Max Talisman

The setup is familiar and fun — high schoolers killing time talking comics and girls — but the road this movie follows will disturb you. A tragic accident and subsequent coverup drives the suspense of Super Dark Times. It's an artful horror film wrapped in the cloak of mainstream sensibilities. Directed by first-timer Kevin Phillips, it was hailed by critics and audiences alike in 2017.

4. Jolene (2008)

Starring: Jessica Chastain, Dermot Mulroney, Chazz Palminteri, Rupert Friend,  Denise Richards, Michael Vartan, Frances Fisher, Theresa Russell

If you've ever wondered where Jessica Chastain came from, wonder no longer. The Oscar-nominated actress is an A-list star now, but she was once an unknown redhead starring in Jolene at the Seattle International Film Festival. Chastain plays the title character in the film, a teenage orphan discovering her sexuality. This leads to big trouble, of course, as every man (and woman) she meets wants to own her. She bounces from foster care to a mental hospital to other assorted jobs and men, each one a nightmare in its own way.

5. A Futile and Stupid Gesture (2018)

Starring: Will Forte, Domhnall Gleeson, Martin Mull, Joel McHale, Thomas Lennon, John Gemberling, Jon Daly, Seth Green, Emmy Rossum

The story of National Lampoon magazine comes alive in A Futile and Stupid Gesture. Forte plays Doug Kenney and Gleeson plays Henry Beard, the two founders who took their experience at the Harvard Lampoon and made it their own. Their magazine became the voice of a generation and jump started the careers of some of the most famous comedians of the 1970s. Forte is great here as usual — a non-stop joke machine. And the rest of the cast is plenty of fun as well. The film exists in a world where everything is a joke and nothing is off-limits.

6. Night Moves (2013)

Starring: Jesse Eisenberg, Dakota Fanning, Peter Sarsgaard, Alia Shawkat

Director Kelly Reichardt's beautiful, atmospheric thriller dissects the anatomy of a domestic terrorist plot. Eisenberg, Fanning, and Sarsgaard play three environmentalists who plot the destruction of a dam they believe to be harmful. The movie unfolds slowly as the plans are made and carried out. Reichardt shows a deft ability to coax suspense out of seemingly mundane interactions. When you're planning something illegal, every move is nerve-wracking and this movie captures that sentiment perfectly. The scene where Fanning buys fertilizer is marvelous.
