UPDATE: Bode Miller
has taken the lead. Weibrecht remains in the silver position.
As the Men's Super G competition gets underway, American Andrew Weibrecht
is holding an early lead with a time of 1:30.65. Weibrecht laid down a clean run in the Super G compeition, which favors speed and those who can improvise on a course that no one is allowed to practice on. American downhill skier Andrew Weibrecht. (Getty Images)
American Ted Ligety
seemed ready to pressure Weibrecht, but a mistake in the mid-course, which saw Ligety swinging far wide, took him out of medal contention.
Not helping any of the racers is that the Whisler course appears to be breaking apart in the Canadian sunlight. Snow and ice has been flying up at an alarming rate as skiers fly down the course in speeds of excess of 100 kmh.
Still up to race? Bode Miler
, Didier Cuche
, and Carlo Janka
-- all big guns.
