Weibrecht, not seen as a favorite by many before the race, also had the difficult job of being first out of the gate in Super G.

Super G, in which competitors are not allowed to practice on the course beforehand, can be difficult for those who compete first. Despite that, Weibrecht laid down a time of 1:30.65, which stood up for a bronze.

It's the first time Weibrecht will take to the Olympic podium. The 24-year-old, called by some the future of U.S. men's skiing, was cheered on his parents at the bottom of the hill.
