Is Armie Hammer the Next Batman?

Just because Christopher Nolan closed the book on his Dark Knight trilogy doesn't mean Batman has retired from the big screen, especially considering the massive success of Dark Knight Rises and Marvel's superhero collaboration movie, The Avengers. Following Marvel's lead, DC hopes to start production on their own cross-comic epic with a Justice League film, meaning Bruce Wayne is already tapped for a return.

But who will follow in the footsteps left by Christian Bale, George Clooney, Val Kilmer, and Michael Keaton? Rumors out of Warner Bros. studios point to Mr. Lone Ranger Armie Hammer. Coincidentally, Hammer was originally on WB's radar back in 2007 when they first toyed with adapting Justice League for the cinema. As we know now, the project failed to get off the ground, and Hammer was forced to wait until 2010 to get his breakout role in The Social Network.

  • He'd be perfect!
  • No way, I don't see it.
With Hammer on the verge of becoming a top flight A-lister, it's no surprise Warner is knocking on his door again. The whole thing feels like when the ex-girlfriend who dumped you comes crawling back when she finds out you're doing really well without her. But who are we kidding? If you get the chance to play the caped crusader, you take it. (Unless, of course, it's in Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin. Clooney will be the first to tell you that.)

With a Justice League script yet to be finished and no director tapped, the Armie Hammer casting rumor is just that, a rumor. But doesn't he have Wayne Enterprises written all over him?
