Baron Davis
Baron Davis is the Golden State Warrior point guard who brought the Warriors to their upset of number 1 seed Dallas Mavericks in game one of the NBA playoffs. A two-time NBA All-Star, the 6'3" Davis was drafted out of his sophomore year at UCLA by the Hornets until he was scooped up by the Warriors – who had a leadership vacuum on the court – in '05. When in good health, Davis is known to be a playmaker, a power driver, and a grinding workhorse who can step up to get the job done. Having missed a lot of play for injuries, Davis' most recent troubles resulted in arthroscopic knee surgery (Feb 07), which seems to be taking hold. He's getting stronger every game – 33 points in 48 playoff minutes can't be wrong -- and the Warriors have their fingers crossed.
An L.A. native, Davis is fairly active in the interests of the underprivileged and on black issues in particular, having spoken in front of the Congressional Black Caucus on health care and championed Black Awareness month, not to mention his non-profit for underprivileged kids, and a documentary he made on gangs in LA -- with his own film company Verso Entertainment.
