One of the most highly-anticipated horror remakes of the decade is slated for next year, and we're getting our first look at its most important character today. Bill Skarsgård will be playing the killer clown known as Pennywise in the upcoming adaptation of It, and Entertainment Weekly has published the first picture of him in costume.
"It’s such an extreme character. Inhumane," Skarsgård says. "It’s beyond even a sociopath, because he’s not even human. He’s not even a clown. I’m playing just one of the beings It creates."
The look is predictably creepy, and some might notice right away that theyr'e going with a "clean" design for the clown, with crisp, sharp lines. That was a conscious decision to move away from the more popular "messy" clown looks we've seen in movies since Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker hit screens in 2008's The Dark Knight.
"It’s important that we do something fresh and original for this one. It’s purposely not going toward that weird, greasy look," Skarsgård, said.
