You know things are looking up when you go from being the AT&T Girl to Squirrel Girl.
Milana Vayntrub starred as Kevin’s playwright girlfriend on NBC’s This Is Us and talked up a storm about dropped calls and Siri in some hilarious AT&T commercials. Clearly, things are heating up for her because she just nabbed the lead role in Freeform’s new Marvel series! You’ll see Vayntrub star as the quirky Squirrel Girl (a.k.a Doreen Green) on the comedy which has been given a straight-to-series order. Now, that surely sounds promising!
Joining her will be Baby Daddy vet Derek Theler as Mister Immortal (a.k.a. Craig Hollis). While Squirrel Girl has all the powers of a super-squirrel and an unyielding optimistic attitude, Mister Immortal chooses to live life cautiously despite not being able to die. Sounds like a major bummer and a waste of some seriously awesome powers.
Dear White People actor Jeremy Tardy will portray the powerless Night Thrasher; Austin & Ally star Calum Worthy will take on the kinetic energy-thrower Speedball; The Comeback actress Kate Comer will come to life as the low-level telekinetic magnet Debrii; and 2 Broke Girls alum Matthew Moy will play the dude who can talk to germs: Microbe.
Unlike The Avengers, the New Warriors want to make a difference in the world with their less-traditionally awesome superpowers. Of course, living together and working together will prove to be quite a challenge for these not-quite super, not-yet heroes.
“I am thrilled beyond belief to be working with this incredible group of actors,” said showrunner Kevin Biegel. “They are funny, sincere, eager, charming and perfectly embody these characters. It'll be a blast and an honor to create this show with each of them.”
Marvel’s New Warriors will premiere in 2018.
