The Suicide Squad officially got together for the first time, and director David Ayer has the photo to prove it. He posted the picture to Twitter Wednesday night with the caption, "Cast read through today!” And indeed all the movie’s promised stars appear in the picture with one notable exception — Jared Leto, who’ll be playing the Joker. Leto got his own photo post about 24 hours later with a Twitter picture that references the Joker's most famous title, Alan Moore's gritty 1988 story The Killing Joke.
While some of the casting is still rumored or just hasn’t been made public yet, we do know who several of these stars are playing. Will Smith’s role as Deadshot, Margot Robbie’s casting as Harley Quinn, and Viola Davis' role as Amanda Waller have all made headlines. The big surprise for many fans was seeing The Mindy Project's hilarious secret weapon, Ike Barinholtz, in the picture. He might be playing one of Batman's first foes, Hugo Strange, but that's just a rumor at this point. It’s hard to say who the movie’s heroes and villains will be since it’s a movie about a whole team of bad guys coerced into fighting an even greater evil. But Suicide Squad is quickly becoming one of next year's most anticipated movies.
