Carey Lowell was born in Chicago, Illinois to a Catholic priest and his only brother. He began his undergraduate studies at West Virginia's Christian College before getting his master's from Temple University in 1971 and enrolling next to his school's famous African American graduate. Lowell's life was a roller coaster ride, but once upon a time he was willing to go back and forth with the Church and work hard to get good grades as a member.
