Songs of Summer 2013: Country

(VEVO | Getty Images)Many of the best-ever summer songs are about kicking back and enjoying a beer or 12 with one's best friends, and there is no genre friendlier to a good ol' party than country. They've also got the breakup anthem down, too. Check out this summer's strongest showings.

1. "Cruise," Florida Georgia Line
It's a strange world we live in that Nelly should have his big comeback moment on the remix of a country song (especially when he released an excellent single of his own), but no one's complaining. The song, which is all about driving around with the windows down (proper summer anthem material), set the record for the slowest climb to the top five on the Billboard Hot 100... ever.

2. "I Want Crazy," Hunter Hayes
There is no country heartthrob more beloved this summer than 21-year-old Hunter Hayes, who appealed directly to his young, female fanbase with this tune about happily embracing mad love. It's so squeaky clean, moms love it too.

3. "Boys Round Here," Blake Shelton feat. Pistol Annies & Friends
Blake Shelton gets his rap on in this completely shameless redneck party song, which includes the line "chew tobacca, chew tobacca, chew tobacca spit" in the chorus. It's not rocket science, but it's a lot of fun. And it goes well with beer.

4. "Crash My Party," Luke Bryan
Luke Bryan's emotional "I'll drop everything for you" love song is not terribly groundbreaking or original, but that has never stopped songs like these from becoming every eighth grader's favorite slow dance soundtrack.

5. "See You Again," Carrie Underwood
Country radio was a bit of a boys' club this summer, but Carrie Underwood left her mark on the charts with this up-tempo ballad about someday reconnecting with lost loved ones in heaven. Underwood, an Oklahoma native, won props for the poignant music video, which depicts families recovering from the Newtown, Connecticut shooting and the tornado that destroyed Moore, Oklahoma in May 2013.

6. "Wagon Wheel," Darius Rucker
One of the biggest country hits of the summer was also the most controversial. Many Bob Dylan fans weren't terribly happy that the artist formerly known as Hootie had chosen to cover an Old Crow Medicine Show tune. They'd probably be even less pleased to learn that it's now his most successful solo song, ever.

7. "Parking Lot Party," Lee Brice
Lee Brice is apparently country music's answer to Andrew W.K., as he manages to sing the word "party" 22 times in his latest single. And it's a winner — country fans don't need to wait around for football season to appreciate a good tailgate.

8. "Highway Don't Care," Tim McGraw feat. Taylor Swift
The songs on Taylor Swift's latest album Red tend to skew more pop than country, but she still reps her roots when she can — this summer, with her longtime pal (and one-time lyrical inspiration) Tim McGraw.

9. "Done," The Band Perry
The Band Perry, aka Nashville's biggest hair band, revisited familiar territory with the second single off their latest album Pioneer. But the world needs a steady influx of super sassy breakup songs, right?

10. "Wasting All These Tears," Cassadee Pope
Cassadee Pope proved herself the most successful winner of The Voice to date with the release of this weepy breakup ballad, which debuted at number 7 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
