Vince Vaughn, best known for legendary comedies Swingers and Wedding Crashers, has been arrested for DUI. Vaughn was detained early Sunday, June 10 in Hermosa Beach, California (a coastal town just 30 minutes south of Los Angeles) and released shortly thereafter. The actor was stopped at a DUI checkpoint around 1 a.m., where he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and resisting arrest. There was a male passenger in his car who was also charged and booked for public intoxication. Manhattan Beach Police Sgt. Matt Sabosky told NBC the passenger was charged with "resisting, delaying or obstructing police," and that both men refused to get out of the vehicle.
Vaughn was held at the Manhattan Beach Police Department until his release earlier this morning around 7 a.m. His passenger has yet to be identified. Us Weekly reports that he was released on $5,000 bail, and a court date has been set for September 10. Not much else is known about this incident, and when the Associated Press reached out to Vaughn's reps, they gave no comment.
Several hours after his arrest, the police department released Vaughn's mugshot, which has since made the rounds on Twitter. Fans were quick to point out how great he looks in the mugshot.
The Manhattan Beach Police Department actually announced this particular checkpoint on social media several days ago. The heads up was made in an attempt to curb any attempts to drive while intoxicated. Whoopsie.
"The intent of the checkpoint is to encourage sober designated drivers. By publicizing these educational and enforcement efforts, the Manhattan Beach Police Department believes that drinking and driving and driving while unlicensed will be reduced," read the Facebook post. "Our 'Zero Tolerance' approach to enforcement sends a clear message to those who still don’t heed the warning to designate a sober driver before celebrations begin. Simply put, 'If you are over the legal limit, you will be arrested.'"
If the charge sticks, this will be Vaughn's first DUI, though he did have a brush with the law in 2001. Vaughn and actor Steve Buscemi were involved in a bar brawl in Wilmington, North Carolina where they were filming the movie Domestic Disturbance. In the fray, Buscemi was stabbed by a random man and Vaughn was arrested and held on $600 bail. The charges against Vaughn were later dropped.
The actor has laid low in recent years, though his IMDb page remains active. He last appeared in 2017's Brawl in Cell Block 99, in which he plays an incarcerated boxer who ignites a prison riot.
He has three films (Fighting with My Family, Dragged Across Concrete, and Against All Enemies) set to release in the next year. In Fighting with My Family, he'll appear alongside Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Lena Headey.
Stay out of trouble, Vince!
