According to Us Weekly, Nick Carter, the youngest member of the infamous Backstreet Boys, is the latest addition to Season 21 of Dancing With the Stars. Carter has always been a fan favorite, and he's no stranger to dancing. This means his chances of winning the Mirrorball Trophy are pretty high.
“I'm excited,” Carter told Us Weekly after the announcement was made. He also posted a cheeky tweet.
In the past, Carter turned down the opportunity four times before finally accepting it for the latest season. So who changed his mind this time around? Joey Fatone, member of rival boy band *NSYNC, talked Carter into signing up for the hit reality show. The two singers have developed a friendship over the past few years, and Fatone also participated in Seasons 4 and 15 of DTWS.
“He talks about it all the time and I was really debating if I wanted to do it, and he said, 'It's a great experience, it keeps you in shape and it'll teach you a lot of stuff,'” Carter revealed. “He said, 'You'll get what you put into it.' And I'm a hard worker, so I think it'll be fun.”
But there's also a bit of sibling rivalry involved. Aaron Carter, Nick Carter's younger brother, finished in fifth place during Season 9 of DTWS.
“My brother was on it; he did great; and he's a great little dancer and entertainer so I saw it through his eyes throughout that experience,” said the former Backstreet Boy. “And there's a lot of competitiveness in me and I think there's a little something inside of me that says, 'Okay, I'm going to go there and represent the Carter name and do even better than he did!'”
ABC announced the names of some other cast members, including Bindi Irwin―the 17 year-old daughter of the late Steven Irwin. “This is completely different to anything I've ever done in my life. I'm used to wrangling crocodiles!” she said on Good Morning America.
E! News reports that Victor Espinoza, who won the Triple Crown in 2015 for horse racing, will also be part of the show, along with former Food Network star, Paul Deen. Last year, Deen turned down the offer because it was “not appropriate for her.” Grammy-winning musician Chaka Khan is looking to make her mark on the dance floor as well.
Dancing With the Stars will premiere on Monday, September 14th at 8 p.m. on ABC. This season is going to be out of control.
