Channing Tatum is busy boning up on his Cajun with a release date now on the books for the upcoming Gambit movie. He's set to star in the X-Men spin-off, which is now officially dropping October 7, 2016, a year already packed with superhero films.

Tatum broke the news to his Twitter followers Tuesday with this tweet.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Gambit is a superhero capable of super-charging any object with enough kinetic energy to do some serious damage. He's best known for using his ability on playing cards, and he's also known for dating Rogue and making Marvel writers work in a hilariously miswritten faux-Cajun accent.

Being from the south, Tatum has repeatedly talked about how much he loves Gambit, and he's apparently serious about getting the accent right, too (see below). The X-Men franchise will be growing quite a bit in 2016. A Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds is already scheduled for February that year with X-Men: Age of Apocalypse dropping in May. Then just a few months after the Gambit movie, Hugh Jackman will return with another Wolverine in March, 2017.
