Last August, rumors swirled that Channing Tatum was working to close a deal with 20th Century Fox to portray Marvel's Gambit. After several on-again, off-again moments during negotiations, the deal was sealed. Now, Gambit finally has a filming date.

Originally slated to hit theaters some time in the fall of 2016, writer-producer Simon Kinberg has now confirmed that production for the film won't even begin until the spring of 2017.

YouTube's The Hashtag Show, who interviewed Kinberg during the 2016 Saturn Awards, caught the writer sharing there's a "great script" for the movie. He also said Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool 2 is set for the beginning of 2017.

Gambit is one of the lesser-known superheroes of the X-Men world, a card-toting, kinetically-gifted character with the strength of a tank.

When news first broke that Tatum was to assume the role, quite a few people were skeptical. To be fair, however, plenty a naysayer bit their tongue after experiencing Heath Ledger's joker in The Dark Knight.
