Well here's something you probably never expected to hear in your lifetime: George Zimmerman, the man (in)famous for being acquitted after shooting a 17-year-old, will get in a boxing ring with DMX, the rapper whose rap sheet is longer than his discography.
This bizarro-world matchup comes from boxing promoter Damon Feldman, who's using the bout to reinvigorate his "Celebrity Boxing" brand, which once included such famous fights as Tanya Harding vs. Waitress and Octo-Mom vs. Amy Fisher. (Clearly, his definition of "celebrity" is as loose as ever.)
Given Zimmerman's controversial acquittal, there was no shortage of applicants eager to punch his face in, but of the 15,000 submissions, Feldman's going with DMX. Perhaps it was the quote, "I am going to beat the living f**k out him ... I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I f**k him right up," that sealed the deal for DMX. Or maybe it was that DMX said he literally wanted to pee in Zimmerman's face
— who knows?
The match will be held on March 1. Whether or not it will be televised or broadcast solely online remains to be seen, but here's how the fight breaks down:
In this corner, one of the most troubled rappers in hip-hop history, his bark is as big as his bite...D-M-X!!!
And in this corner, one of the most hated men in America, a guy who's used to fighting teenagers and women, George Zimmerman:
Ughhh, even the charity that stands to gain the proceeds probably feels dirty about this whole thing. In the end, no one wins here, and there's no one to root for. DMX has been in jail for everything from aggravated assault to drug possession to theft to animal cruelty, and George Zimmerman is George Zimmerman. This breed of celebrity boxing isn't fun, it's just depressing.
