Girl Meets World is officially a go!

Disney Channel gave the hotly anticipated Boy Meets World spin-off the official green light on Monday and released the first image of Cory and Topanga as parents. Newcomer Rowan Blanchard stars as Riley Matthews, the girl who'll be meeting the world during the series.

Here's the official Girl Meets World description from the Disney Channel:

Set in New York City, the new comedy series will tell the wonderfully funny, heartfelt stories that Boy Meets World is renowned for — only this time from a tween girl’s perspective — as the curious and bright 7th grader Riley and her quick-witted friend Maya (played by Sabrina Carpenter) embark on an unforgettable middle school experience. But their plans for a carefree year will be adjusted slightly under the watchful eyes of Riley’s dad who’s also a faculty member — and their new History teacher — and Riley’s mom who owns a trendy afterschool hangout that specializes in pudding."
In a statement, executive producer Michael Jacobs said, “Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made Boy Meets World so popular.”

At the ATX Television Festival earlier this month, Danielle Fishel dished on what it's been like reuniting with co-star Ben Savage on the new GMW series. "Reuniting with Ben has been even better than I could have possibly imagined it to be," she gushed in a video taped interview. "After being apart for so many years and now working together, I think we were both a little nervous that maybe being Cory and Topanga wouldn't come back as naturally to us, but it totally did. The minute we walked into rehearsals…it was like no time had passed."

And though Shawn Hunter won't be in the Girl Meets World pilot, actor Rider Strong hopes his character will be able to make an appearance on the show someday soon. "I feel like I should show up at some point and finish the storyline," the actor told E! on the ATX red carpet. "We've been talking. I just want it to be done right. I really want it to be classy and good. I want it to be something that makes the fans proud."

Girl Meets World won't premiere until 2014, but in the meantime you can check out another photo of Riley Matthews and her BFF Maya below:
