In the space of three years, it only took two movies for Ridley Scott to change science fiction forever. Alien (1979) and Blade Runner (1982) have become sci-fi touchstones far beyond just cinema, and today we've got news for both their sequels.

First, Ryan Gosling has confirmed that he's attached to the Blade Runner sequel being directed by Denis Villeneuve (PrisonersSicario). Gosling told Collider it's the next film he's slated to film, but he was tight-lipped on details because, "there’s a chip in me and if I say anything more I’ll explode."

Next is an update on Scott's Prometheus sequel. It's gone through another title change, and will now be called Alien: Covenant. Scott has previously said the new movie will reveal the origins of one of cinema's most famous monsters of all time, bridging the gap between Prometheus and Alien. Unfortunately for Alien fans, Scott's involvement has meant Neill Blomkamp's Aliens sequel has been shelved for now.
