Following the success of The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story, increasing interest has enveloped the premises of future seasons. While Season 2 will follow the political fallout of Hurricane Katrina, details on Season 3 are already being released. Say hello to Lady Versace.
According to Rolling Stone, Lady Gaga will play fashion icon Donatella Versace in Versace/Cunanan: American Crime Story, which will focus on the murder of Gianni Versace, Donatella's brother.
Gianni was killed on the steps of his South Beach home in the summer of 1997 by serial killer Andrew Cunanan. While it's said that Cunanan was sent to assassinate Gianni due to unpaid mafia debt, the criminal killed himself with the same gun he used to shoot Gianni only a week later.
Donatella is currently vice president of legendary fashion house Versace, and after her brother's death, also serves as its chief designer. Interestingly, Gaga and Donatella are friends in real life, having been seen together on multiple high profile occasions. Gaga included a track entitled "Donatella" in her third studio album Artpop, and was featured in Versace's Spring 2014 ad campaign.
Lady Gaga won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Limited Series thanks to her performance as The Countess in American Horror Story: Hotel. While she does appear in the series' current season My Roanoke Nightmare, that appearance is sparing. Her role in Versace/Cunanan will be her second major role in a Ryan Murphy production since.
