Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson hosted Saturday Night Live for the fifth time over the weekend, but after one big announcement, this most recent appearance might just steal the ticket.
Standing alongside "running mate" and friend Tom Hanks, Johnson said he'd be throwing his hat into the ring for the presidency in 2020.
"Starting tonight, I am running for the president of the United States," he said, donning the show's signature Five-Timers Club smoking jacket.
"And I've got to tell you," he continued, "I've already chosen my running mate. He's also in the Five-Timers Club, and like me, he's very well-liked. He's charming, universally adored by pretty much every human alive."
"Dwayne, I could not possibly turn this down," Hanks responded. "I'm in. Let's go."
"Now, in the past," Johnson said, "I never would've considered running for president. I mean, I didn't think I was qualified at all, but now I'm actually worried that I'm too qualified."
"Well, the truth is, America needs us," Hanks assured his friend. "No one can seem to agree on anything anymore except for two things."
"Pizza and us," Johnson said without skipping a beat.
After discussing how great they both were for about a minute, Johnson got a little more serious.
"It's just that when it comes to politics, we need more poise and less noise," he said. "Americans deserve strong, capable leaders. Leaders who care about this country and care about its people."
"Dwayne, that kind of sounds like you and me. I guess we gotta do it," Hanks exclaimed as a "Johnson Hanks 2020" banner released behind them.
As it happened, fans were actually pretty receptive to the idea of a Dwayne Johnson presidency, which The Rock has also teased in the past.
Could it be that Johnson was simply using this comedic announcement to test the waters?
Only time will tell.
