With news today that Elena Kagan
may be the next person nominated to the Supreme Court, people are curious about her personal life. Not much is known about Elena Kagan's personal life. (Getty Images)
However, it's suprsingly difficult to find information abotu Kagan's personal life. According to one (very, very sketchy) Internet message board
, Kagan is "with a female former partner of another leading legal academic."
Meanwhile, commenters over at Daily Kos
seem torn on the matter. If Kagan is a lesbian, she's never openly talked about it, though an Epinions Harvard law review does name her as a lesbian.
We'll see. If Kagan is indeed the nominee, we imagine many of these issues will get unpacked by both sides in the coming days.
Sure enough, as news broke this weekend that Kagan was indeed the nominee, rumors have begun swirling. A "Conservative Action Alert" by Chaplain Gordon James Klingenschmit was recently sent out, claiming that Kagan was gay. Meanwhile, sources within the White House have privately told several new sources that Kagan is not gay.
CBS News found itself in a sticky spot, as it came under fire for a blog post by conservative activist Ben Domenech that claimed Kagan would be the "first openly gay justice." CBS initially refused to remove the article, but Domenech did eventually the article, writing: "I have to correct my text here to say that Kagan is apparently still closeted -- odd, because her female partner is rather well known in Harvard circles."
