Elizabeth Olsen and a costumed actor on the set of Avengers: Age of Ultron in Point Saint Martin, Italy. (Bauer Griffin)Marvel Films mastermind
Joss Whedon has been busy shooting his
Avengers sequel,
Age of Ultron in Italy, and the first pictures from the set reveal a few details from the upcoming movie. The biggest reveal is an actor dressed up in what appears to be the underpinnings of an Ultron costume. Check out the pictures below.
1. The Guy in the Ultron SuitContext: Ultron will be the super-smart robot villain in
Avengers: Age of Ultron. He'll be played by
James Spader, but we don't know how much of that performance will actually require Spader's physical body, since we're talking about a robot whose screen appearance will be mostly computer generated. In the comics, Ultron is created by super-scientiest Henry Pym, aka Ant-Man, but word is that his origin has changed for the movie. Instead, he might be the highly-evolved offspring of Jarvis, Tony Stark's artificially intelligent personal assistant.
2. Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet WitchContext: Elizabeth Olsen plays Wanda Maximoff,
aka the Scarlet Witch, who has the ability to manipulate the odds of things in her favor by using "hexes." We don't know how much of that ability is being kept in place for
The Avengers, but we know her twin brother Quicksilver, aka Pietro Maximoff, will join her onscreen played by
Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Interestingly, Quicksilver will also be appearing in this year's
X-Men: Days of Future Past, which makes sense because in the comics, Magneto is the twins' father.
