Emma Stone Has Had Her Jokes Stolen and Given to Dudes

But she's not calling out anyone specific just yet.

Emma Stone is funny, so we're not surprised to learn she cracks up her directors on set — we just didn't think they'd steal her jokes and give them to guys. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Emma adds to the ongoing dialogue about Hollywood sexism by talking about her experiences. During the discussion she actually had to go off-record to get completely honest, but before she did, she told a revealing story.

"There are times in the past, making a movie, when I've been told that I'm hindering the process by bringing up an opinion or an idea," Stone says. "I hesitate to make it about being a woman, but there have been times when I've improvised, they've laughed at my joke and then given it to my male co-star. Given my joke away. Or it's been me saying, 'I really don't think this line is gonna work,' and being told, 'Just say it, just say it, if it doesn't work we'll cut it out' – and they didn't cut it out, and it really didn't work!'" (Stone goes off-the-record before elaborating further.)

Hmm, makes you wonder exactly where this happened? Was it SuperbadCrazy, Stupid, Love.Easy A?

Stone was contrasting the horror stories with the positive experience she had making La La Land with Damien Chazelle. She learned to tap dance for the role and worked closely with the director in developing her character and (we're guessing) didn't have one joke stolen from her and given to Ryan Gosling the entire time.
