The multi-instrumentalist and singer won the Best New Artist at the 2011 Grammys, and a year later Spalding shared Hollywood's biggest stage with a choir to pay tribute to the now deceased members of the film industry.

Spalding's powerful yet restrained voice complemented the tribute perfectly. The annual "Those We Lost" montage included Whitney Houston, and ended with Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor.
