George Takei, Star Trek vet, renowned LGBTQ advocate, and beloved social media personality announced on the eve of Apr. 1 he'd be running for congress against Devin Nunes, resting California congressman, Republican, and noted climate change skeptic.
The news was especially exciting as fans of the sharp 79-year-old have been pleading for Takei to get more involved in politics for years.
Unfortunately, the announcement was an April Fool's joke Takei put to rest some nine hours later.
Even more unfortunately, his chances looked real, real good.
Dare to dream, right?
Funny enough, right around the same time Takei was concocting his cruel, cruel scheme, ABC shared that hundreds of protestors had greeted Nunes outside a recent speaking engagement, carrying signs with statements like, "Nunes step down," "Recuse or replace Nunes," and "What are you hiding #Russia."
The protest was held to condemn Nunes', also chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, after he reportedly shared his findings on Trump's involvement with Russia with the White House prior to reporting those findings to the committee he's meant to run.
Maybe you should reconsider, George.
