Maryland native Hilary Rhoda
made her debut in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2009 - and she's just confirmed that she will be appearing in the magazine again in 2010.
Rhoda, perhaps best known for being the face of cosmetics giant Estee Lauder, told The Washington Times
' Green & Glover,
"For a model, it is a major achievement and a business tactic to widen my fan base. I always looked at it from an aspirational angle because of how fit and in shape the women in it were. I work out every day, and to have a strong body instead of something frail like in fashion magazines, that's something to look up to. Every woman is welcome to her opinion but I think the photos came out beautifully."
Rhoda is not the first to remark that the women of Sports Illustrated
are often healthier-looking than those who often grace high fashion magazines. Both Tyra Banks
and Heidi Klum
have said they turned to commercial work when they felt pressure to change their bodies.
