Fans have mixed feelings about a new trailer for The Incredibles 2. While the first film in the Disney-Pixar franchise featured the Parr family as a single, impenetrable unit, the sequel features dad, Bob (Mr. Incredible), as a stay-at-home parent and mom, Helen (Elastigirl), as the superhero bread-winner.
In the "sneak peek" below, which first aired during the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, Bob spends all his time at home with the couple's kids, Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack. Meanwhile, Helen has embraced a new life as a wheelie-spinning, crime-fighting badass.
"So are they not going to fight as a family?" wrote YouTube user, Shania Lewis.
"I thought that the plot would be more intriguing considering any Incredibles fan has been waiting for 14 years," wrote another commenter, Alex. "I would understand if the made a not too appealing trailer after a year or two after the first one, but 14 years after the initial release, and all they make it look an Elastigirl solo movie with too many political references (ex. The new math). I hope the actual movie is better than this trailer portrayed it to be."
"That 'bye sweetie' ain't sound right," another viewer opined. "Also, this preview has me feeling really bad for Bob."
One note is that this "sneak peek" probably doesn't accurately depict the entire movie's plot. The trailer is on the hazy side, likely intended to draw interest and buzz more than it's intended to tease major plot points.
After all, we're talking about The Incredibles here. They have an extra special friend who wouldn't tolerate such behavior.
The Incredibles 2 hits theaters June 15, 2018.
