Millions of movie-goers
Adam Lambert (Axelle/Bauer-Griffin)
packed into Les Miserables
screenings this week, and at least one of those patrons was famous and didn't much like the remake, starring Hugh Jackman
, Anne Hathaway
, Amanda Seyfried
, and a host of other stars.Adam Lambert
took to Twitter
to voice his mediocre review of the film. "Les Mis: Visually impressive with great Emotional performances. But the score suffered massively with great actors PRETENDING to be singers. It's an opera. Hollywood's movie musicals treat the singing as the last priority," the American Idol
While Anne Hathaway
's "breathtaking" performance as Fantine got a pass in Lambert's book, the rest of the cast wasn't so fortunate. "I do think it was cool they were singing live, but with that cast, they should have studio recorded and sweetened the vocals. . . The singing was so distracting at times it pulled me out," he added.
His rant didn't end there. "The industry will say 'these actors were so brave to attempt singing this score live,' but why not cast actors who could actually sound good? Sorry for being so harsh but it's so true!" he continued on Twitter.
Lambert finally defended his criticisms, citing his deep connection with musicals as reason for his less-than-favorable review. "glad we are all discussing this now! Look-I grew up w this musical and so my expectations are quite high. Didn't mean to b negative," he explained.
