Country singer Jason Aldean has released a heartfelt statement on Instagram following the mass shooting that occurred while he was performing at a country music festival in Las Vegas on Sunday evening.

"Tonight has been beyond horrific," Aldean wrote. "I still don't know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that Me and my Crew are safe. My Thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight. It hurts my heart that this would happen to anyone who was just coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night. #heartbroken #stopthehate."

The shooting killed more than 58 people and injured over 500 more. It has been reported that the shooter was firing from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, which was very close to where the outdoor Route 91 Harvest Festival was taking place.

Online video shows Aldean and other rushing off the stage moments after the first shots are fired.

Country singer Jake Owen was onstage with Aldean when the attack began, and he told CNN: “It’s like shooting fish in a barrel from where he was. I feel so bad for these people. We’re so lucky that none of us were in the line of fire.”

“This is not an exaggeration — This shooting was going on for at least 10 minutes,” he added. “It was nonstop.”

Owen also took to Twitter to thank the Las Vegas Police Department:
