(FameFlynet Photos, PacificCoastNews, Getty Images) Trailer of the WeekFat Kid Rules the WorldMatthew Lillard may be in the midst of an unlikely career revivial. After his impressive turn in last year's
The Descendants, Lillard is following it up with a role in
Trouble with the Curve, co-starring
Clint Eastwood,
Amy Adams, and
Justin Timberlake. What may be more impressive is Lillard's directorial debut,
Fat Kid Rules the World, which just launched a very cinematic trailer and will screen at South by Southwest this week. The film follows an overweight depression case who attempts suicide only to be saved by another troubled teen. The two form a bond over punk rock and a friendship is formed. Lillard's best movie is 1998's
SLC Punk so it's apt he's based
Fat Kid in some familiar subject material. I'm drawn to films about hopeless teenagers who find a reason to carry on. There's something about teenage angst and the plight of a loser that makes me rush to the theater.
On Set Photo of the WeekBardem on the Skyfall setWe got our first look at
Javier Bardem in costume on the set of
Skyfall this week. Don't be fooled by the police getup, the Spanish actor will play the as-yet unnamed villain in the new James Bond film.

(FameFlyNet Photos, Getty Images) - Vulture reported this week on Warner Brothers' confidence in Tom Hardy as one of Hollywood's next real leading men (something virtually assured since he made Bronson in my opinion). With The Dark Knight Rises ready to destroy box office records this June, the studio has just inked the English actor to a new first-look deal that will include a biker film produced by John Linson (Sons of Anarchy). The movie will take place in the 1960s so we're guessing Hell's Angels territory here. Hardy would play a Vietnam veteran who returns home to San Francisco to lead the pack.
- Emma Roberts and Liam Hemsworth will star together in Empire State, directed by Dito Montiel. Variety reported on Roberts' casting this week. The film is set in 1982 and based on true events. Hemsworth will play a thief who plots to rob an armored car depository. Roberts will play his girlfriend and Dwayne Johnson has been cast as the cop chasing him. Roberts is already having a big 2012. She appeared in two films at the Sundance Film Festival (The Art of Getting By and Celeste and Jesse Forever) and is filming Adult World right now with John Cusack.

Spring Breakers girls in this column, but this one deserves some mention.
Selena Gomez,
Vanessa Hudgens, and
Ashley Benson in bikinis on Vespas? We're guessing there will finally be a real market for a
Harmony Korine movie.

Diablo Cody's funny, sad, and authentic film comes to Blu-ray this week.
Charlize Theron's nuanced performance as a young adult author who concocts a terrible plan to win her old flame back is one of the best of 2011. Many Oscar pundits had her earmarked for a nomination but comedic portrayals are usually left in the cold.
Patton Oswalt also deserves high praise for his performance.
Young Adult is a return to form for Cody, who penned the Oscar-winning screenplay for
Juno in 2007.

Mark Wahlberg and his buddy, Ted. We can't say
Seth MacFarlane's first real foray into feature films will be on anyone's Oscar radar, but
Ted is shaping up to be one of the more interesting films of 2012. The R-rated black comedy features
Mark Wahlberg,
Mila Kunis, and MacFarlane himself lending his voice to a CGI teddy bear named Ted. Details about the film are starting to emerge as we draw closer to its June release date.
Slashfilm has some details and some minor spoilers. We don't want to ruin anything, but the film revolves around Wahlberg's character and his old Christmas present, Ted, who comes to life and becomes very famous somehow. Apparantly the bear will curse like a drunken sailor and engage in sex acts (with human women presumably). It's doubtful there are many other living stuffed animals around. Although, knowing MacFarlane, you shouldn't put it past him. Furries everywhere are clamoring for this one.
2013 Best Picture Nominees- Aside from the new poster for Moonrise Kingdom showing up this week, there hasn't been much movement along the front lines of the Best Picture race. Lincoln is still the prohibitive favorite with The Master close behind.
