In The Walking Dead mid-season finale entitled "Hearts Still Beating," hearts stopped beating. More specifically, say a swift goodbye to Spencer, Olivia (we barely knew you), and maybe Eugene, whose status is slightly more ambiguous, but also not looking great.

Oh, Season 7.

In yet another display of twisted morality, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) offs Spencer (Austin Nichols) after the snarky sidekick lets his weasel show. During a game of pool, Spencer not-so-casually suggests to sassy ol' Neegs that Rick (Andrew Lincoln) might not be the best man to run Alexandria. Negan immediately sees through Spencer's manipulation, splicing him into zombiehood. In other words, Negan put Spencer's weasel right to bed. No night light.

Sorry, Spencer. The New World has no room for the likes of you.

On the sadder side, Olivia (Ann Mahoney) is also taken out after a homemade bullet Rosita (Christian Serratos) attempts to house in Negan's skull misses its mark, instead hitting his batty lover, Lucille. Negan grills Rosita on where she acquired the ammunition, Rosita lies like a rug, and professional BS sniffer Negan has none of it. Olivia is thus a casualty of the cocktail of misfortune that is Negan's crony's pistol, and Rosita's transparency and rage (she had, after all, recently lost her best hook-up option).

Even worse, Eugene (Josh McDermitt) — fresh off the pain of witnessing fellow Alexandrians Abraham and Glenn laid to absolute ruin — promptly confesses to supplying Rosita the bullet in a bid to save his squad. He's whisked away, fate unknown.

In total, then, we're looking at only two major deaths, a relatively slight number considering the rain of carnage with which TWD fans are accustomed.

The Walking Dead Season 7 picks up February 12, 2017.
