thought he was doing a good thing for his nanny, Elin Nordegren
, in 2001 when he introduced the blonde to up-and-coming golfer Tiger Woods
. Now, he's regretting that the two hit it off, got married, had a kid, then wound up in this recent car crash/affair mess. Jesper Parnevik (Getty)
"I feel really sorry for Elin," he told The Golf Channel (via Yahoo! Sports
). "I would be especially sad about it since I'm kind of ... I really feel sorry for Elin, since me and my wife were at fault for hooking her up with him. We probably thought he was a better guy than he is. I would probably need to apologize to her and hope she uses a driver next time instead of the 3-iron." Eek.
Though Parnevik is taking some of the Tiger drama personally, given his prior involvement with the couple, most of the golfing (and sponsor) world has been supportive of the pro and his family. Most hope he's not completely ruined by his "transgressions" and wish a speedy recovery for the world's best athlete. We'll see how it plays out.
