In a bit of casting news that is just too visually perfect to ignore, John Boyega has been cast to play Idris Elba's son in the upcoming sequel to Pacific Rim. The Star Wars and Attack the Block actor broke the news on Instagram with the hashtags #Iamapentecost and #pacificrim2.
In the first movie, Elba played Stacker Pentecost, a military leader who helped save humanity from giant inter-dimensional monsters intent on taking over our planet. He died in the process, but we don't know if we'll be seeing him again via flashbacks or if Boyega will just be stepping in as Pentecost Junior. For that matter we don't know much at all about the sequel, Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, which is due in theaters February 23, 2018.
