John Cena — the second most beloved wrestler-turned-actor (the first one is, of course, Dwayne Johnson) — is in talks to headline a big-screen adaptation of the Duke Nukem video-game series. If everything chalks up, Cena will portray the ripped, alien-killing, and cigar-chewing action hero with a seriously questionable flat-topped hairstyle.
Although the movie is in the beginning stages of development, it will presumably turn into a franchise. As of now, no writer or director is attached to the Paramount project which is being produced by Michael Bay’s company, Platinum Dunes. That pretty much guarantees that the testosterone level will be flowing freely and abundantly in this film.
In 1996, the video game series peaked with Duke Nukem 3D, while the fourth game, Duke Nukem Forever, indeed took forever to arrive. It landed in 2011, and did not stick the landing. Let’s hope the movie will be a lot better, considering Cena is totally adorable and marketable.
