Well, apparently things weren't quite as happy in real life as their sappy music video suggested. Though there's been no official confirmation from the couple, the Interwebs have been on fire with speculation about what caused the breakup. Here's the full list of reasons why these two supposedly called it quits -- in no particular order.
He wanted to get married and she didn't. “But the one thing that happened was that John was interested in marrying Katy and wanted to propose, but she didn’t want to take that plunge yet," a source told
HollywoodLife.com.
She wanted to get married and he didn't. BlindGossip speculates that Perry really wanted to get married, but really didn't want to quit partying, per Mayer's request. "Perry would not stop partying… and she would not stop pushing the marriage issue. All of the engagement ring teases were publicity stunts orchestrated by Katy Perry. She was the one who bought the rings. She thought that if the public liked the idea of her engagement, that it would push Mayer towards proposing. That didn’t happen. It actually caused Mayer to back away more. Mayer eventually became so annoyed by her constant partying, her public clamoring for attention, and her trying to push him into marriage, that he broke up with Perry again."
They've been fighting. "She's stressed about the tour, they've been fighting," a source told
Us Weekly. "It is probably for the best, because she is going to be on tour for forever. Of course this happens all the time, I can't keep track anymore. But for now they are done."
She's afraid of failure. “She realized that she really loved John but the commitment of marriage scared her because she failed at it the first time,” another source told
HollywoodLife. “She wants to live her life less seriously right now.”
