Our reactions to the terrorist attacks in Paris have come in many forms: sadness, confusion, fear, but perhaps most common, anger. In the age of social media, it can be a struggle to voice one's strong opinions about a tragedy while also maintaining a level of sensitivity for the victims and their families. This is why it's typically in our best interest to rely on political comedy experts and their teams of talented writers to successfully capture how we feel.
John Oliver, host of Last Week Tonight, took advantage of his HBO show's cable rules, or lack thereof, by providing viewers with an expletive-laden, pro-France tirade against ISIS on Sunday. And it was perfect.
Not only was Oliver's monologue extremely intelligent, relevant, and hilarious, but it was true and, quite frankly, exactly what we have all been thinking and not given the appropriate platform to say.
To sum up his thoughts (without getting into too much trouble of our own): terrorists are a*$!^&les and nobody can deny that in a war of cultures and ideologies, France always reigns supreme. #Croquembouche
