Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have settled their ongoing domestic violence case, as well as the divorce that was tied to it, out of court.
Tuesday morning, TMZ reported 30-year-old Heard had withdrawn her request for a domestic violence restraining order after she and Depp, 53, reached a settlement.
The site alleges Heard will receive $7 million, $1 million less than was at one point on the table. It is unclear why the settlement she finally agreed to included less money.
As per the agreement, Heard dismissed the case with prejudice, so she will not be able to re-file charges against Depp.
The settlement was achieved just days after Heard's deposition, during which Depp lawyers Laura Wasser and Blair Berk grilled Heard on the incidences of violence she'd experienced while married to Depp.
Depp settled with Heard prior to being forced to undergo his own deposition.
It also comes just days after a video leaked of Depp engaging in an aggressive rant during which he can be seen slamming cabinets, smashing wine bottles, and wrestling a phone out of Heard's hands.
On Monday, a photo was also released of Depp's bloody fingertip which Heard alleges he cut off, drawing the words "Billy Bob" in blood on the wall after he accused her of cheating with actor Billy Bob Thornton.
In the absence of a prenuptial agreement in the state of California, Heard had the right to half of Depp's assets. His net worth is approximately $400 million.
The former couple has released a joint statement:
"Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gains.
"There was never an intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity."
This case has been ongoing since May 21, when Heard filed for divorce after 15 months of marriage, going on to accuse Depp of physical abuse and releasing photo and text evidence. She requested custody of one of their two dogs and $50,000 a month in temporary spousal support to cover lawyer fees and cost of living. She rejected Depp's counter-offer of $50,000/month for eight months in exchange for not a "domestic abuse" restraining order, but a "mutual" restraining order. Her decision to reject was apparently on the basis that she hadn't been the violent party, and that a mutual restraining order would be pointless, not to mention an obvious bid from Depp's camp to extend blame under public scrutiny.
Days later, the actress retracted her request for that temporary spousal support entirely, stating that she'd realized it was being "used against me to distract and divert the public away from the very serious real issue of domestic violence."
While the estranged couple's domestic violence hearing was originally scheduled for an earlier date, that hearing was pushed to August 15 and 16 after a request from Depp's attorney Laura Wasser. Heard's deposition was subsequently scheduled to take place August 6, but for reasons unknown, Depp's camp did not question her at that time.
A new deposition was scheduled for Saturday, August 13, and a settlement was reached early the following week.
