Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs (PacificCoastNews.com) Kat Dennings, star of big screen mega-hits like
Thor and
The 40-Year-Old Virgin, will be coming to your living room this fall. Get your mind out of the gutter -- Dennings is just starring in CBS' highly anticipated new comedy series
2 Broke Girls! The show premieres on Monday, September 19th in the much coveted post-
Two and a Half Men time slot, so it looks likely to be a ratings slam dunk.
But that doesn't mean Dennings isn't anxious about her latest project.
"I was talking on the phone to my mother," Dennings recently told the
New York Times regarding taping in front of a live audience. "I was like: 'Mom, there's no air. I'm going to throw up. What do I do?' She's like: 'Go out there, you'll be great. Go get some water. Eat a piece of fruit.'" We have a feeling that the show will be a hit, so the starlet should have plenty of time to get over her initial performance jitters.
2 Broke Girls centers around an unlikely friendship between Max and Caroline (Dennings and co-star
Beth Behrs), who are living the low-income lifestyle in Brooklyn as they attempt to start a cupcake business. Dennings thinks that the show will definitely appeal to TV viewers. "The subject matter of being broke is a huge deal always, and especially right now," she told
MTV News. "Everyone can relate to that, and it's nice to see people go through it on TV."
2 Broke Girls was created by
Whitney Cummings (star of another new show, NBC's dully named
Whitney) and
Sex and the City executive producer Michael Patrick King, who actually gave Kat Dennings her first ever television role. What illustrious part did the actress play? "Blow job Bar Mitzvah girl," naturally. It was
Sex and the City after all.
Even though she's a big time movie and television star these days, Dennings says she understands her character's struggles.
"Well, things have been going well, as of late, but acting is one of the most risky businesses you could ever be in. You literally do not know where your next paycheck will come from, and there have been moments where I haven’t worked for a year," she told
Collider.com in a recent interview. "I’m a very safe spender. I save everything. I save all my money. My parents raised me like that. It’s never been an emergency, but there have definitely been times where I’ve been worried."
Will America love watching two hot girls struggle to make ends meet while baking copious amounts of cupcakes? Tune in to CBS this Monday to find out! In the meantime, you can also check out some more of fall TV's hottest new faces below.
