Katie Cassidy took to Twitter to commemorate the memory of her late father, David Cassidy, who died of organ failure on Tuesday at the age of 67. The Arrow star broke her silence on Friday to thank everyone who reached out with words of kindness and support during this very difficult time.
The Partridge Family alum had a rather complicated relationship with his daughter whom he had with former model Sherry Williams. In fact, Katie was raised by her mother and her stepfather, Richard Benedon. However, David still played an integral role in his daughter's life.
“Because I didn’t raise her, I didn’t have to parent her,” David revealed to People in 2009. “I’m always here and totally nonjudgmental.”
Katie was clearly very appreciative of their bond, stating: “To be able to go to someone I’m genetically linked to, tell them anything and know that they’re not going to judge me — it’s unbelievable,” Katie said in the same People interview. “It’s nice when your dad can be your friend.”
Over time, the famous father and daughter drifted apart. Last February, David disclosed that he was no longer in contact with Katie. “I wasn’t her father. I was her biological father but I didn’t raise her. She has a completely different life,” he explained. “[But] I’m proud of her. She’s very talented. It’s hard for me to even accept how old she is now.”
In addition to Katie, David is survived by his son Beau Cassidy. Plans for the Hollywood legend's memorial service and funeral have not been revealed.
