Following Matt Lauer's termination from NBC's Today show, his long-time co-host, Katie Couric, has remained quiet. The two worked on the show together for 15 years before Couric accepted a position at the CBS Evening News.

After one Instagram follower expressed surprise that the 60-year-old had yet to comment, Couric responded for the first time on Saturday, Dec. 9.

“Nothing to say on Matt?? Huh – y’all would have been all over the story years ago. I watched y’all for YEARS. My childhood," follower Candace Taylor Benson commented. "Just goes to show you really can’t trust people. He interviewed people on their moral character and had none himself. I want time back I spent watching!!!!! and you have nothing to say. Crickets. People hear you loud and clear though."

Couric unexpectedly replied to Benson's comment, promising a response would come when she was ready:

"It’s incredibly upsetting and I will say something when I’m ready to," Couric wrote. "Thanks for your interest."

On Nov. 29,Zimbio reported Lauer had been fired from the Today show following sexual misconduct allegations.

"This is a sad morning at TODAY and at NBC News," Lauer's former co-host Savannah Guthrie announced on the show. "We just learned this moments ago, just this morning. As I’m sure you can imagine, we are devastated, and we are still processing all of this, and I will tell you right now we do not know more than what I just shared with you, but we will be covering this story as reporters, as journalists. I’m sure we will be learning more details in the hours and days to come, and we promise we will share that with you."

Hoda Kotb echoed Guthrie's sentiments, offering an earnest perspective on the situation:

"This is a very tough morning for both of us," she said. "I’ve loved Matt for 15 years, and I’ve loved him as a friend and as a colleague, and again just like you were saying Savannah, it’s hard to reconcile what we are hearing with the man who we know, who walks in this building every single day. We were both woken up with the news kind of pre-dawn, and we’re trying to process it and make sense of it, and it will take some time for that."

Since his dismissal, Variety and The New York Times have published additional allegations against Lauer from multiple women.
