finally began his one-year gun-related prison sentence Monday nearly a month after he was scheduled to be sentenced. The rapper was taken away in handcuffs immediately after his sentencing to serve one year in New York City's jail system. Lil Wayne performs at the Grammy Awards in December. (Getty)
Originally scheduled to be taken into custody on Feb. 9, Lil Wayne's sentencing had been plagued by delays that kept him out of Rikers Island jail. His sentence was originally delayed so that he could undergo major oral surgery on his blinged-out teeth. Wayne received eight root canals in one day and was given time to recover before being scheduled back in the court room March 2.
That sentencing was also delayed after a fire broke out in the building, but this time Lil Wayne is indeed in jail. In a plea deal on weapons charges, Wayne was given one year, but will likely serve about 8 months after receiving time off for good behavior.
Sunday night, Lil Wayne took to Twitter
