Nicki Minaj's tears.
has been on American Idol
since the beginning of time, so it's no surprise that he's fine with axing aspiring singers throughout the TV talent show. But for the newbies, it's rough. Keith Urban
, Nicki Minaj
, and Mariah Carey
all talked about how traumatizing Wednesday's sudden-death round was. "I hated it. I really did," Mariah Carey said about cutting 5 of 10 of the female contestants. "Everybody was talented and different. There were some special people we had to get rid of."
This might be the only
and Ms. Carey agree all season. Minaj added (via People
): "I don't want to hurt people's feelings, but I guess that's what we're required to do."
Urban talked all about having to let a contestant go, even though he'd been pulling for her the whole way. "I couldn't get enough votes," he said. "It was just simple as that. We all take turns saying 'yay' or 'nay' to the girls, and I actually had to say it to the girl I had voted for. That's particularly hard."
Don't expect things to get any easier today, when five of 10 men will have to leave Las Vegas.
