After a weekend of fevered speculation, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially announced their engagement! The pair also made a public appearance together for a photocall in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace in London.

Prince Harry, 33, and Markle, 36, became engaged quietly earlier this month and will marry in spring 2018. Markle, who recently left her television series Suits and moved to London, will live at Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, where Harry currently resides.

Harry's father, Prince Charles, released the official engagement statement from his office at Clarence House, saying that he was "delighted" to announce the impending nuptials.

"Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle's parents," the statement added.

The couple will make an official engagement appearance on Monday afternoon before taking part in a broadcast interview which will air in the evening.

Shortly after the announcement, Kensington Palace also released a statement on behalf of Markle's parents, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland.

"We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry. Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents.... We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together," the statement said.

Prince William and Kate Middleton, aka the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, also expressed their joy at the engagement news:

Harry and Meghan were introduced in July 2016 by mutual friends in London. Markle, an actress who is also known for her humanitarian work, made her first public statement about her high-profile relationship in July of this year, telling Vanity Fair simply: "We're a couple. We're in love."
