It's a plane! It's a bird! It's Superman!

Teen Wolf hottie Tyler Hoechlin has officially been cast as the iconic hero on Season 2 of Supergirl which will air on The CW this fall. While viewers have always been aware of Superman's presence on the show, we've never actually seen his face. Hoechlin's Clark Kent/Superman will visit his cousin and the show's leading lady, Kara (Melissa Benoist), in National City on the first two episodes of the forthcoming season.

“[Executive producer] Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” Supergirl showrunner Andrew Kreisberg explained in a statement. “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”

The Man of Steel has maintained a relationship with Kara through online correspondence, and he even appeared as a child when Kara suffered from the effects of the Black Mercy (a parasitic plant). Of course, there was the time Superman's boots made a brief but memorable appearance.

Apart from Teen Wolf, Hoechlin's previous TV credits include 7th Heaven, Lincoln Heights, Castle, My Boys, and CSI: Miami. He also starred in notable movies like Road to Perdition, Solstice, and Everybody Wants Some.

Hoechlin now joins the long list of actors who've suited up as Superman. Henry Cavill, Brandon Routh, and Christopher Reeve portrayed the Man of Steel on the big screen while George Reeves, Dean Cain, and Tom Welling played him on TV.
