Molly Ringwald was on stage tonight at the 2010 Oscars to honor the late director
John Hughes, who directed her in cult classics like
The Breakfast Club,
16 Candles, and
Pretty in Pink. The iconic director died in 2009 after suffering a heart attack in New York at 59. She and
Matthew Broderick and a host of other celebs took the stage for the remembrance.
John Hughes (yummymummyclub.ca) Hughes is credited with bringing the Brat Pack to fame in the '80s. He's largely responsible for bringing actors like
Molly Ringwald and
Anthony Michael Hall to the spotlight. His first big hit movie was
National Lampoon's Vacation in 1983.
In 1994, Hughes retired from the spotlight and moved to the Chicago area. It's said that he was very shaken by John Candy's death, and that was largely responsible for his step out of the limelight. He was a farmer in Illinois for the last few years of his life.
