There was a lot to love about Sunday's SAG Awards, but the crabby show of friendship between besties Morgan Freeman and Rita Moreno stole the evening.
While presenting the Life Achievement Award to her old friend, Moreno referred to him as "a national treasure." As a good comrade, though, she wasn't about to let Freeman accept his honor without looking sharp.
"Morgan, lift up your hat! Lift it up!" Moreno said before Freeman could speak, encouraging him to raise his stylish hat. "There we go. Now they can see you.”
"You have no idea how long I had to put up with that," Freeman joked in response.
The legendary actor went on to show gratitude for the award.
"These moments in one’s life usually will call for an entire litany of thank-yous. I can’t do that because I don’t know all of your names. So I won't try," Freeman said. "This is beyond honor. This is a place in history. Oh, and one more thing: I wasn’t going to do this. I’m going to tell you what’s wrong with this statue. It works from the back. From the front, it’s gender specific. Maybe I started something."
As Freeman exited the stage, Moreno offered to help Freeman carry the award.
"Do you want some help, dear?" she asked. "You have no idea how heavy these things are."
Moreno and Freeman starred in Electric Company together, and in 2014, Freeman presented the exact same achievement award to Moreno. Needless to say, it was time for Moreno to return the favor.
